Uncomfortable and challenging conversations are commonplace in all fields of healthcare. There is a need to encourage development and application of evidence-based knowledge, skills and values related to being person-centred irrespective of the level of challenge or uncomfortableness. All staff across all fields should have the space and opportunity to practise skills in this area and reflect on personal and professional development for Person-Centred Care. To address this need, Health Action Training (HAT) are offering a 12-hour blended learning course that addresses this need.
AIM OF COURSE
This course aims to engage learners in an interdisciplinary process that uses actor training and applied drama techniques to improve competency (knowledge, skills and values) in dealing with uncomfortable and challenging conversations . The course prompts reflection on application of evidence-based ideas that will upskill everyone in how to be person centred despite the communication challenges.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of the course learners will be able to.
- Apply HAT performance techniques and person-centred practices in role-play scenarios related to uncomfortable and challenging conversations.
- Develop HAT and Person-Centred skills such as centreing, sympathetic presencing, effective breathing techniques, listening well, finding the voice and overall awareness of self and others.
- Reflect on the application of evidence-base and policy guidelines that need to be considered in uncomfortable and challenging conversations with specific focus on issues raised by course participants.
